Separation Anxiety is an extremely distressing condition for the dogs who suffer from it, and also their guardians. A dog is who is terrified of being alone can display one or more of a variety of symptoms, including vocalisation, destruction and inappropriate toileting - they are experiencing a true panic attack and are desperate to escape. For their human guardians the effect on daily life can be just as devastating - nobody wants their beloved canine friend to suffer, but our own health and happiness is no less important, so we need to find a solution to help everyone.

Pamela discovered that her own dog Josie was suffering from severe Separation Anxiety when she was a young puppy, so she understands how it feels when people are unable to leave their dogs alone in the house for even a few seconds, let alone the few hours most of us hope for. Working with the support of a specialist trainer, Pamela was able to train Josie to feel comfortable when alone for gradually increasing durations. The experience inspired her to continue her education and qualify as a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer (CSAT), studying under Separation Anxiety training expert Malena DeMartini and becoming one of only a small number of UK based trainers to hold this advanced qualification.

TRAINING

How we’LL help:

Successful Separation Anxiety training involves assessing your dog’s panic point at the start, along with other environmental factors which may be adding to their distress. From this a systematic training plan will be created, breaking down each element and repackaging into tiny doses that the dog can handle right now, then very gradually making it more challenging as they progress. Careful observation of their behaviour and body language helps with assessment of their comfort level, and the plan is adjusted appropriately on a daily basis.

All Separation Anxiety assessment and training takes place remotely - this is beneficial so we can observe your dog in their normal environment, with you leaving them as you usually do, without the distraction of a trainer potentially causing a change in behaviour. We will keep in touch daily using remote tools you are comfortable with, and you will receive individual and customised training plans 5 days a week, with clear and specific instructions to follow. Then once a week we will meet for a video assessment where we will watch your dog live and review progress.

In addition you will be provided with all the personal coaching and support you need as you progress through the training, helping you through the tough times and celebrating your progress as you achieve your goals.

REMEMBER - IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT:

As you start your journey to help your dog feel better about spending time alone, one of the most important things to know is that it is not your fault they are suffering. Despite what is commonly believed, dogs do not develop Separation Anxiety because they were mollycoddled or spoiled, allowed to sleep on the bed, fed from the table, spent too much time with their guardians etc. They are not behaving out of spite or revenge and they will not just ‘get over’ it if left to cry. They are suffering from a true panic attack, and our systematic training method (using a scientific process called desensitisation) is the fastest and most humane way to help them progress..
