about PAMELA

Drawn to wanting to understand more about our canine best friends, Pamela enlisted the help of expert in fearful dogs, Debbie Jacobs, for help with her own dog, Buster, a rescue dog who struggled to cope with the challenges of daily life. Gaining more insight into how to help Buster thrive, she was inspired to continue her education in dog training and behaviour, deciding to attend the esteemed Academy for Dog Trainers, where she learned under renowned expert, Jean Donaldson. Pamela holds the Academy’s Certificate in Training and Counselling (CTC), having graduated with honours in 2018. Then in 2020 she studied Separation Anxiety with Malena DeMartini to gain her Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer (CSAT) qualification. She is also a Fear Free Certified Professional and a member of the Pet Professional Guild British Isles.

Pamela is committed to providing her clients with the most up to date information and using evidence-based practices that are grounded in science and are also ethical, humane and effective. She is keen to help dog owners and carers understand why their canine friends may be struggling to fit in with our human way of life, especially those experiencing anxiety or fear, and how to help give puppies the best start for future success.

Pamela lives near Banbury in North Oxfordshire with her Border Collie, Josie, who arrived as a young puppy in January 2019. Having previously worked as a Diagnostic Radiographer, and also a qualified Ice Skating Coach, Pamela has a scientific background with the added expertise in counselling to help human learners understand what is needed to achieve success. She also holds a certificate in Canine First Aid, and is fully insured and DBS checked.

Aversive Free Philosophy

Pamela follows a code of conduct that does not include aversive methods or equipment, and therefore will not use pain, fear, startle, shock, intimidation, choke or similar methods to motivate your dog. There is ample evidence in the scientific literature that training, handling and behaviour modification can be accomplished without the use of these methods, which have potential side effects such as fear.

Pamela will always be happy to explain the training methods she proposes to use with your dog, which are based on a thorough knowledge of animal behaviour and ethical, science based practices. Please see this video ‘Transparency in Dog Training’ for more information.
