When our dogs are puppies, we have a unique opportunity to ensure that they live happy, healthy lives in which they are prepared for living in our human world. Puppies need good experiences under their belt so that they can become well-adjusted companions as they grow. Puppy socialisation is a critical part of this and so we will focus on having positive experiences with lots of people, places and things.

There are also practical concerns to living with a puppy. At the top of most people’s lists are things like house training, puppy biting and crate training. Addressing these issues early on is crucial and can help set the whole household up for success.

Puppy Training

How we’LL help:

We can begin building basic behaviours with puppies e.g. sit/down/stay/leave it, and doing so at a young age can help build a bond and set the foundation for a lifetime of happiness with your well-mannered best friend.

In addition we can help to prevent behaviour problems in later life by doing exercises to teach your puppy to enjoy having objects taken away or their food bowl being approached, because it predicts something even more awesome, and to feel safe and happy when left alone. Body handling is another thing that is commonly overlooked - it is natural for dogs to be anxious about manipulation or restraint, and strange objects being used on or near them, but if we can introduce these to puppies as safe and comfortable experiences, then it increases the likelihood of activities such as grooming, nail clipping, tooth brushing and wearing a muzzle being pleasurable rather than something to be feared in the future.

Attending a high quality puppy class at an early stage (before age 18 weeks) is highly recommended for the variety of socialisation experiences available, but if you are struggling to get to a class, or would like to supplement your training with one to one support, then please get in touch. The investment in your puppy at a young age will pay dividends for years into the future.

We’ll focus on:

Puppy socialisation, house training, puppy and adolescent play-biting, crate training, basic manners, resource guarding prevention, alone training, body handling, and equipment familiarisation.

PRIVATE Puppy CLASSES

How we’LL help:

Does your busy schedule make it impossible to commit to a regular weekly puppy class?

Do you have any friends or family who also have a young puppy, up to about 5 months of age?

If so, we can organise to run one or more private puppy classes at your home or other secure location of your choice. A maximum of 4 puppies can be accommodated, to ensure everyone gets plenty of individual attention.

We’ll focus on:

We will cover a range of socialisation, training and behaviour elements from the above puppy training curriculum, with time to address individual issues for each puppy.
